I hope everyone’s school year has been going well despite the surprises, frustrations, and breakdowns. Personally, I have been handling it: not enjoying or necessarily loathing, but just handling.
And that’s okay; I am used to sitting quietly and internally drowning in stress and crying over not enough sunlight nor moonlight. And It’s fine. I’m fine. Everything is fine.
On that note (no pun intended), here is a list of songs that allow me to make it through the day despite each freezing classroom I walk into. This is a freaking good list of songs, so get ready.
- Blessed by Daniel Caesar. I saw a tweet the other day that perfectly sums up everything about this song. “Daniel Caesar sounds like falling in love in a field of sunflowers.” And as cheesy and cliche as that sounds, it honestly couldn’t be more accurate. This whole album is entirely, incredibly, and without a doubt so good. Each song is my favorite, but if I had to choose only one, it would definitely be this ballad. So good y’all. So good.
- Lay It on Me by Vance Joy. Ever since his first album, Dream Your Life Away, I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for new music; and three years later, I finally got this beauty of a song. And it exceeded all of my expectations!!!! Put on something flowy and dance through the sunlight streaked room to this song : )
- Dark Red by Steve Lacy. I have a good friend who feeds me the greatest music, and I am forever grateful that he told me to listen to this gem because it is an absolute masterpiece; Steve Lacy is an actual genius. This song is always in my head, but I can’t complain about it.
- Another Love by Tom Odell. I’ve been listening to this song ever since we all went through The Fault In Our Stars phase and I still have not managed to get sick of it. You know that one song that you add to every playlist and never take it off? That’s this song. If I know one thing, it’s that Tom Odell writes the best ballads on the planet.
